Digital Retinal Photography
Digital retinal photography (DRP) is an exciting new technology that only a few optometry practices have embraced. It is a painless and quick procedure that allows a digital photo to be taken of the internal lining of the eye.
The tissues we view are the retina and in particular the macula. The optic nerve can be viewed at high magnification this allow us to more precisely document its appearance; valuable information to assess your glaucoma risk later on in life.
DRP allows us to more accurately assess your eye tissues for better diagnosis and for future reference. Below are a few examples of tissue changes we have noted in some of our patients.

Macular Degeneration is a devasting disease that is becoming more prevalent in our older population. It affects your central vision making it difficult to do sinmple day to day activities. Click image for larger view. |

Choroidal Naevus. This is a tissue change much like a mole on your skin. They need to be watched closely as some can become melanomae. Click image for larger view. |

Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve that ultimately leads to blindness if untreated. Most people who have glaucoma are unaware until the end stages, where it can then be too late to recover sight. Click image for larger view. |

Diabetic Retinopathy is found in diabetic patients. It causes bleeding within the retina and vision loss. Click image for larger view. |
